Myron "Shorty" Card

Myron “Shorty” Card, 85, of Hampton, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 21, 2024, at the Hampton United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Myron will be laid to rest in the Hampton Cemetery. Woodley Funeral Home of Hampton is caring for Myron and his family. Myron Balis Card was born February 16, 1939, in Aplington, son of Balis and Irene (Miller) Card. He graduated from Austinville High School and then enlisted in the United States Marines. On January 15, 1960, Myron was united in marriage to Carol Schermer. He and Carol took various vacations together, taking a bus trip to Pennsylvania and a boat cruise in Europe just to name a couple. They also wintered in Texas for many years. Myron worked as a lineman for Cornbelt Power for 42 years. He was a member of the American Legion and Fish & Game Club. Myron enjoyed getting together with his Monday Golf Group, Hardee’s Coffee Club and playing cards at the Hampton Senior Center. He was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church. Myron loved golfing and was so proud of his hole-in-one in Texas. He loved watching sports; his family disputes which team was his favorite, Iowa or Iowa State. Myron loved fishing, especially trout fishing with his friend, Harold Meyer. He enjoyed playing cards and attending his grandchildrens’ events. Myron played catch with his son, Marlon, every night and enjoyed attending his Special Olympics events. The Shriners were so important to the Card family as they helped tremendously with Marlon. Myron is survived by his wife Carol Card of Hampton; sons Troy (Tammy) Card of Fairmont, Minnesota and Sheldon (Missy) Card of Pleasantville; grandchildren: Maddisen Card, Max Hinners, Lincoln Card and Savanna Card; brother Mylon (Barb) Card of Hampton; nieces Ciara (Gunner) Fevold, Rachel Card, Aubrey Card and Alexis Card; nephew Lance Miller; and sister-in-law Norma Jean Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Michael Card; and son Marlon Card.
