Bennie G. Schipper

Bennie G. Schipper, 96, long-time resident of Ackley, passed away Monday, January 2, 2023 at Grand JiVante in Ackley. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, January 6, 2023 at the St. Peter's United Church of Christ, rural Wellsburg. He will be laid to rest at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time on Friday at the church. Counsell Woodley Funeral Home, Inc. of Iowa Falls is caring for Bennie and his family. Bennie G. Schipper was born on October 21, 1926 to George and Annie (Miller) Schipper in Butler County. Bennie attended rural country schools near their family home and worked the family farm after his dad passed away. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ. In 1951 Bennie began working for the railroad as a trackman until his retirement in 1988. On August 31, 1951 Bennie was united in marriage to JoAnn Marlys Krull in Ackley, Iowa. They enjoyed 45 years together until her passing in 1996. Bennie loved spending time with his family and raising a garden. He also enjoyed trips to the casino’s especially on his birthday and on Friday’s going to the gas station to play the pull tab lottery tickets. Most everyone knew not to call him during the Wheel of Fortune show or he would abruptly tell you to call him back later. Bennie Schipper is survived by his children, Audrey (Vernon) Harms of Conrad, Karen Stubbe of Bondurant and Linda (Paul) Polson of Des Moines; grandchildren, Jaclyn (Andy) Uher of Huxley, Sarah (Derek) Heinrichs of Monroe, Jeremy and Michelle Stubbe of Ankeny, Kendsey Stubbe and Fiancé Shedrick Elliott of Des Moines and two step-grandchildren, Angela and Joe Lemke of Florida and Paul Polson Jr. of Des Moines; great-grandchildren: Sophia and Wyatt Uher of Huxley and Brooke and Macy Stubbe of Ankeny; sister, Jessie Peters of Aplington; brother, John Schipper of Fredricksburg and sister in-law, Sharon Schipper of New Hartford. He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Schipper; son in-law, Gregory Stubbe; brothers: George, Harm, Andrew and one stillborn; sisters, Annie Prange, Pearl Schipper, Esther Krull and Violet Kappel; sisters in-law, Gracie Schipper, Janet Schipper and Marie Schipper; brothers in-law, Louie Peters, Vern Prange, Harm Krull and Herman Kappel; a nephew, Gerald Peters and niece, Vickie Hildebrand.
