Beulah Shear

Beulah Irene Shear, 86, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away Saturday, February 29, 2020, at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison. She was born March 22, 1933, west of Aredale, Iowa, to Dwight "Brud" and Ethel (Wendt) Davis. Beulah graduated from Dumont High School, class of 1950. She was united in marriage to DeWayne Shear on November 9, 1952, at the Aredale Methodist Church. She worked for the telephone office for five years and helped operate the family business, Shear Elevator, every spring and fall. Beulah was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Parish in Dumont and the Eastern Star. Beulah enjoyed attending dog races with DeWayne and gambling, specifically slot machines. She also enjoyed working outside, mowing and detailing cars. Beulah was an amazing cook. She would always prepare a feast, making sure everyone had enough to eat. If you left her house hungry, it was your own fault. Beulah is survived by her husband DeWayne Shear of Dumont; sons Danny (Cindy) Shear, Dennis (Linda) Shear and David (Joan) Shear, all of Dumont; grandchildren Cody (Cassy) Shear of Dumont, Kallie Shear of Bondurant, Kylie Shear of Bondurant, Brittany (Dave) Gronewold of Dumont, Jessica (Troy) Hambly of Hampton, Monty (Kiley) Shear of Allison and Crystol (Benji) Ufford of Dumont; great-grandchildren Ellis, Lily, Hale, Aubree, Adelee, Ainslee, Michaela, Brycen, Jarrett and Alivia; sisters ChloeAnn Stock of Hampton, Kay (Jim) Stahl of Hampton and Judy Vogel of Texas; brother Butch (Diane) Davis of Cedar Falls; sister-in-law Janelle (Larry) Stock of Waterloo; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, father- and mother-in-law Kenneth and Zola Shear, brothers-in-law Howard Stock and Trent Vogel and sister-in-law SueAnn Campbell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the New Hope United Methodist Parish in Dumont and Dumont EMS. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at the New Hope United Methodist Parish in Dumont. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 2, 2020, at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont. Burial will take place in the Dumont Cemetery.
