David Maifield

David "Dave" Maifield David "Dave" Maifield, 71, of Aplington, Iowa, tragically passed away on June 24, 2026. A private family funeral will be held at a later date. Woodley Funeral Home of Allison is caring for Dave and his family. Dave was born on February 8, 1955, in Iowa, to Gustav and Ruth (Stover) Maifield. He was the fourth of eight children and spent most of his life in the family home in Aplington. He attended Aplington K-12 School and graduated with the Class of 1973. During his youth, Dave was an active member of the Boy Scouts under the leadership of his father, who served as Scout Leader. Through dedication and perseverance, Dave earned the rank of Eagle Scout, an accomplishment that reflected the character he carried throughout his life. He had various jobs, but those who knew him best will remember that his most important role was as a devoted caregiver to his mother. His mother instilled and shared his love of reading. Dave was often seen carrying a stack of books to the library and returning home with new ones. He was a gentle soul with a kind and compassionate heart and had a special affection for animals, especially cats. He was well known for caring for generations of Maifield cats and kittens, making sure they were fed, sheltered, and loved. While he had strong opinions, his kindness and sense of humor made everyone feel at ease. Dave is survived by his siblings: Michael (Sue) Maifield, Dennis (Sally) Maifield, Melaine (Kent) Brandt, Lori (Steve) Jackson, and Steve (Deanna) Maifield; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav and Ruth Maifield; his brother, Martin Maifield; and his sister, Lisa Maifield. Dave will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his quiet strength, and his selfless heart. His lifelong devotion to his family, his compassion for animals, and the loyalty he showed to others left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
