Donna J. Hardy

Donna Hardy, 93, of Greene, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison. Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m, Friday, September 1, 2023 at the Woodley Funeral Home in Greene. Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 2, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church in Greene. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene. Woodley Funeral Home of Greene is caring for Donna and her family. Donna Jeannine (Delker) Hardy was born on March 5, 1930 to Harold and Ardith (Jones) Delker on the family farm south of Greene. She attended Dayton #9 Country School and Greene High School graduating in 1948. She received her teaching certificate from the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and her bachelor’s degree from Wartburg College in Waverly. She taught in Clarksville, Parkersburg, Waverly, Marble Rock, and Greene for 36 years. Donna dearly loved teaching and being a part of her students’ lives. On June 15, 1956, she was united in marriage to Dale Hardy at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua. They made their home in Greene. To this union two children were born: Jane Marie and Beth Ann. During her long life, Donna enjoyed many family pets, gardening, reading, and travelling during retirement with Dale. Most of all, she loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Donna was devoted to her in-laws, parents, and husband, caring for them as their health declined. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greene and was baptized there on June 5, 1976. She served on various committees throughout the years and loved the fellowship of her church community. Donna is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Jane and Rick Martzahn and Beth and Kevin Nordmeyer; grandchildren: Brad (Sonni) Martzahn, Katherine (Seth) McGrane, David (Libby) Martzahn, Ben Nordmeyer, Sam Nordmeyer, and Tom (Catherine Mullen) Nordmeyer; great-grandchildren: Jenna, Ethan, and Becca Martzahn, Ellie, Mollie, and Emma McGrane; sister: Joy Schueler; nephews: Doug Schueler and Bob Schueler; and cousins: Malinda Welton and Tara Lane. Donna was thrilled to learn that David and Libby would be welcoming a new baby in 2024. Also, left to cherish her memory are many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Dale, parents Harold and Ardith, her in-laws, Fred and Katie Hardy, and brother-in-law August ‘Bud’ Schueler.
