Dorothy "Dot" Rae Metz

Dorothy "Dot" Rae (Gamble) Metz, 75, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Friday, March 6, 2020, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton in Hampton, Iowa. She was born March 10, 1944, in Hampton, Iowa, to Harry And Lucille (Gaither) Gamble. Dot attended Hampton Community High School in Hampton. She was married to Jerry Metz for 36 years and then divorced. To this union, they added three daughters, Tammy, Kim, and Debbie. The family lived at numerous homes in the North Iowa area enjoying life on the farm, livestock, horses, and wonderful picnics at Clear Lake with relatives. Throughout this time, Dot worked as a CNA in various nursing homes. Dot loved country music and 1950s rock and roll. It was common for her to get out her stack of 45rpm records, crank up the volume and teach her daughters to dance. Dot spent many hours behind a sewing machine making blue jean quilts and sharing them with loved ones. Her greatest accomplishment was her children and grandchildren. She adored each and every one of them. She taught them how to play board games and card games never allowing them to cheat. She spent hours watching comedies and mystery movies with the children. Dot would retell the stories, sayings, and antics of the grandchildren with love and laughter to anyone who would listen. She loved to read and would share books and stories with her beloved grandchildren. Her love for children extended to the local school where she volunteered afternoons reading. To know Dot, was to have felt her strong loving hugs, hear her belt out laughter, and see her eyes twinkle when she cuddled her grandchildren. She leaves an indelible mark on the lives of her daughters and grandchildren. Dot's legacy will live on in the hearts of every life she touched. Dot is survived by her daughter Tamera (Scott) Schellenberger of Norwalk, daughter Kimberly (Mark) Bachman of Belle Fourche, South Dakota, daughter Debra (Kelly) Weiland of Klemme, grandchildren Shaun (Shana) Jurgemeyer of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Holli (Travis) Frees of Winterset, Jordan (Felicia) Arndt of Clear Lake, Jaelyn Arndt of Eagan, Minnesota, Jake (Charlee) Bachman of Nisland, South Dakota, Katie (Adam) Welp of Mediapolis, K.C. (Jordynn) Weiland of Klemme, great-grandchildren Eliana, Talya, Devin, Desiree, Diona, Dani, Josh, Colin, Bristol, Jessi, Koibi, Kalvin, Cruz, Connor, sister Barbara (Del) Oswood of Arizona, sister Helen Johnson of Radcliffe, brother Bill (Connie) Gamble of Texas, brother Robert (Barbara) of Redfield, sister Ruth (Denny) Becker of Hansell and Patty Gamble of Hampton. Dot is preceded in death by her parents, brothers LeRoy and Harry and sister Doris Mejia.
