Douglas Miller

Douglas Miller, 75, of Ackley, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2026 at his home in Ackley. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at River's Edge Church in Iowa Falls. Doug will be laid to rest at the Oakwood Cemetery in Ackley. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Lunch will be served at the Ackley American Legion Post 252 following burial. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Iowa Falls is caring for Doug and his family. Douglas Edward Miller was born on April 20, 1951 to Arend and Louise (DeNeui) Miller in Hampton, Iowa. He graduated from Ackley-Geneva High School class of 1971. Douglas honorably served in the United States Army from May 1971 – December 1972. Doug worked for Brandt Construction, Harms and Meyer Construction, United Suppliers and even in his retirement years at Triple T processing. He held various bartending gigs throughout his working career. He was a hardworking man, who was simple but liked to play hard. You always knew exactly where you stood with Doug, and when you were in his circle, there was a heart of gold to be shared. Together since 1992, on June 7, 2003 Douglas was united in marriage to Kathy (Fish) Diamond at Groninga’s log cabin home near Iowa Falls, in which he had the honor of being on the building crew of that home. Doug was a lifelong resident of Ackley and he and his wife Kathy shared a life of 34 years together. They created a great and loving family that shared a great bond with one another. He lived for his children but his biggest love, pride and joy was for his grandchildren, and they sure loved their “PaPa”. He was always on the sidelines of various sporting events or performances, cheering them on. Doug started a family tradition of evening deer cruises with his kids and carried the tradition on with Kathy for the rest of his years. They were always looking for the best new spot. Doug was a master of the hunt and loved a good deal or discount in any situation. They found treasures in the simplest places and cherished the stories behind their finds. Doug wore many hats, by teaching his kids and grandkids lessons in life, from construction work to hunting and fishing and cooking. He took pride in serving his community by being a member of the American Legion Post 252 for 50 years, presenting the flag during parades and Friday night lights, and helping with fish fry’s and omelet breakfast. He also was a member of the former Ackley Men’s Club that did volunteer projects around Ackley. Douglas Miller is survived by his wife, Kathleen Miller of Ackley, Iowa; children, Justin (Jessica) Miller of Reinbeck, Iowa, Melishia (Nicholas) Haar of Loveland, Colorado, Tiffany (Dirk) Dinsdale of Reinbeck, Iowa and Nathan (Ashley) Diamond of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; grandchildren, Benjamin and William Miller, Sophie and Spencer Haar, Dylan and Kate Dinsdale, Jackson and Jonathan Diamond; sister, Bertha Scallon; niece, Angela (Joe Wessels) Scallon; sister-in-law, Michelle (Geno) Pyse and nephew, Michael Pyse. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arend and Louise Miller; twin brothers, Arnold and Ronald and his mother and father in-law, Jack and Portia Fish.
