Marcella Karlene Rewerts

Marcella "Sally" Rewerts, 82, of Aplington, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at the Bethel Reformed Church in Aplington. Marcella will be laid to rest at the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Cemetery in Wellsburg. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Monday at the church. Woodley Funeral Home of Iowa Falls is caring for Marcella and her family. Marcella Karlene (Kalkwarf) Rewerts was born on November 19, 1943 to John A. and Henrietta (Meyer) Kalkwarf. In 1961, Marcella graduated from Aplington High School in Aplington, Iowa. On April 19, 1963 Marcella was united in marriage to the love of her life, Ervin Rewerts, at the Presbyterian Church in Kesley, Iowa. They began their married life in Wellsburg, then later moved to the Rewerts family farm south of Aplington, where they raised their three children and built a lifetime of memories together. As her children grew older, Marcella devoted herself to both her family and her career. She and Ervin owned and operated the Wagon Wheel, a western clothing store, in Aplington, Iowa. For several years, Marcella balanced running the business while raising a family and helping Ervin on the farm. After selling the Wagon Wheel, she worked at O's Gold Seed Company and later as a secretary through a temporary employment agency. She eventually found her permanent career at a law office in Ackley, where she served as a secretary and office assistant until her retirement. Over the years, she formed countless friendships with the many people who walked through the doors. While balancing work outside the home, Marcella was an invaluable partner on the family farm. She hauled grain during harvest, tended expansive vegetable gardens and lovingly cared for flower beds that reflected her creativity and appreciation for God's beauty. Marcella was a woman of many talents. She faithfully shared her musical gifts by playing the piano and organ at the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church (in which she was a member of), finding great joy in both performing and listening to Christian music. She also possessed a remarkable talent for home improvement, fearlessly taking on remodeling projects throughout the family home. No project was ever too big or too small for Marcella—she approached each one with determination, skill and pride. Later in life, Marcella and Ervin spent many cherished summers in Nevis, Minnesota, where they enjoyed fishing, the peaceful beauty of nature, and time together at a seasonal resort, often with the company of their kids and grandkids, teaching them to fish and enjoying boat rides and long bike-trail rides for pizza and ice cream. Upon retiring, they sold their farm south of Aplington and made their home in Outing, Minnesota. There they spent years on remodeling projects in their home and on the property. They also took in the beauty of 10 acres on a lake, enjoying many years of fishing and driving around the area to estate and garage sales. There, she also continued to share her talents by playing piano at their church. Following Ervin's passing in 2019, Marcella returned to Aplington to be closer to family and friends. Although life was different without Ervin, Marcella continued to embrace the activities that brought her happiness. She took great pride in maintaining the acreage she called home, a reflection of her lifelong work ethic and independence. She found contentment in life's simple pleasures—working puzzles, reading books and watching the many birds that gathered at her feeders. She especially looked forward to spending time each week with her exercise group, going to bible study, having coffee with the gals and volunteering at the Christian Women United (CWU) Thrift Store in Iowa Falls. Through these gatherings, she treasured the friendships, conversations, laughter, love, and fellowship that enriched her life. Marcella is remembered by her three children: her son, Rick (Patti) Rewerts of East Bethel, Minnesota; her daughters, Cindy (Dave) Hartman of Newtown, Missouri, and Tammy (Ryan) Sicard of Ackley, Iowa; nine grandchildren: Holly Rudh (Tim Emslander), Diana Hlinsky (Patrick Schlueter), Jason Rewerts, Kristy (Nolan) McMurray, Kelly (Dylan) Stallings, Kyle (Molly) Reinke, Analiya Hartman, Ashley (Adam) Meier, and Rachel (Andrew) McAtee; twelve great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Keely, Colin, Liam, Samuel, Cameron, Ellis, Adeline, Caleb, Claire, Andrew, and Krew; one sister, Barbara Renken; one brother, Keith Kalkwarf; one sister-in-law, Mildred (Larry) Rewerts, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Rewerts; parents, John A. and Henrietta Kalkwarf; stepmother, Viola Kalkwarf; brothers-in-law, Lee Renken and Larry Rewerts. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. Her legacy of faith, hard work, generosity, and her love for her family will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
