Michael Carlberg, 72, of Iowa Falls, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at his Iowa Falls residence. A memorial visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory in Hampton. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for Mike and his family. Michael Linn Carlberg was born on June 27, 1953 to Delmond and Malinda (Koth) Carlberg. He graduated from Iowa Falls High School with the Class of 1971. Mike worked as a welder and mechanic for Weaver Construction/Martin Marietta in Alden, Iowa, until his retirement after more than 45 years. A passionate stock car driver, Mike was a well-known face in local racing, beginning in 1973. Over the years, he won multiple track championships and became a beloved staple in the racing community. In 1986, Mike’s love of racing expanded into Dirt Track Products, which he operated alongside his brother Denny, building cars for fellow racers. This transition gave him the opportunity to mentor young drivers, something he truly enjoyed. In recognition of his racing legacy, Mike was inducted into the Hamilton County Speedway Hall of Fame. Mike was also known for his generosity and quiet acts of kindness. Over the years, he made numerous charitable contributions, including an anonymous donation of 15 bicycles for local children in 2017. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. If you knew Mike, you knew his beloved dog, Izzy. Rarely were his pockets without dog treats, happily shared during their daily walks and frequent trips to the dog park. Mike is survived by his step-son, Adam (Laura) Thompson of New Jersey; siblings, Dennis (Holly) Carlberg of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Lynelle Carlberg of Parkersburg, Iowa and Angela Norpel of Mesa, Arizona; step-siblings, Brett (Beth) Thies, Tony (Mari) Thies, Ann (Tom) Humphrey, Bruce (Laura) Thies and Jill (Kenny) Agan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, that he loved spending time with and whom he delighted in surprising with his handcrafted toys. He was preceded in death by his father, Delmond Carlberg; his mother, Malinda Thies; his stepfather, Franklin Thies and infant nephew, Terrill Alan Dannen. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be directed by the family to honor Mike’s racing legacy. Mike will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.
