Rodney Gene Hill

Rodney Gene Hill, 81, of Hampton, Iowa passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton. He was born on April 8, 1933 in rural Forest City, Iowa to Rudd and Adele (Hickey) Hill. Rod graduated from Forest City High School in 1951, where he was on the state championship football team which was undefeated during the 1950 season. He was united in marriage to Erma Howe on January 18, 1953; to this union three children were born. Rod worked for the John Deere dealership in Forest City and was a loan officer at the Forest City Bank and Trust. Rod was a member of the Lions Club. He was an avid private pilot and a member of the North Iowa Flying Club. Rod married Ardith (Faber) Bobst on February 14, 1998 in Hampton, Iowa. He was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church. Following his retirement, Rod kept busy doing volunteer work and worked for local famers. He enjoyed growing vegetables, especially garlic. Rod was very mechanically inclined, and had a talent for building steam engines. Rod is survived by his wife Ardith Hill of Hampton; son Steven (Sheila) Hill of Baldwin, Wisconsin and their children Matthew (Niki) Hill of Fridley, Minnesota, Adam (Sarah) Hill of Bethlehem, Georgia and Jennifer (Mark) Neely of Baldwin, Wisconsin; daughter Sandra (James) Roenfanz of DeKalb, Illinois and their daughter Kristen Roenfanz; son James (Suzanne) Hill of Sunbury, Ohio and their children Ethan Hill and Lindsay Hill; one great-grandchild; sisters Eleanor Lovik of Forest City, Beverly Narveson of Waterloo and Judy Terry of Iowa City; brothers John (Deanna) Hill of Forest City and David (Lynn) Hill of Leland; step-children Randy (Ann) Bobst, Jane (Steve) Haviland, all of Hampton and Debra (Tim) Primus of Boise, Idaho; step-grandchildren Paul (Katy) Primus and Tyler Primus of Boise, Idaho and Brittany Loebig of Hampton; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Rudd and Adele. Burial will take place in the Hampton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Rodney Hill Memorial and sent to Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, PO Box 403, Hampton, IA 50441.
