Ruby O'Neal

Ruby O’Neal, 87, of Iowa Falls, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Grand JiVante in Ackley, under the care of St. Croix Hospice. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Iowa Falls is caring for Rube and her family. Ruby “Rube” C. O’Neal was born on April 13, 1936 in Iowa City, Iowa. Her birthparents were Richard Monroe Stevenson and Ruby Marcella Hatfield. Ruby was raised at the Annie Wittenmeyer Home in Davenport, Iowa from 10 days old to 4 years old. At age four she went to live with her foster parents, George and Neola McLaughlin until she was six. Rube was returned to Annie Wittenmeyer Home because her foster parents were moving out of the country and couldn’t take Rube with them. She remained at the Annie Wittenmeyer Home until she was 16. Rube then moved to Cedar Rapids. In 1967 she moved to Iowa Falls, where she lived until 2022 when she moved to Grand JiVante in Ackley. Rube enjoyed family get togethers, crocheting, crosswords and playing cards. She always had the best one-liners. Rube loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren more than anything in the world. She always said she didn’t have a family growing up and her children were all she had. They were her everything. Ruby O’Neal is survived by her children, Billy (Andrea) O’Neal of Iowa Falls, Lorreca O’Neal (Dave) Rieck of Iowa Falls, Taphney O’Neal (Brad) Knott of Waterloo, Shawn O’Neal of Hampton, Brian (Dawn) Franks of Cedar Rapids and adopted son, David Brannick of Bradford; grandchildren: Shannon, Brandi, Bryan, LeAnna, Racheal, Misty, Alexis, Megan, Braxton and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her biological parents; three sons, baby boy O’Neal, Boyd and Richard; sister, Iona and her foster parents, Neola and George McLaughlin. The family would like to thank the staff of Grand JiVante and St. Croix Hospice. “You can leave now, shut the door and turn the lights off “ A private family service will be held at a later date.
