Robert Franklin Heilskov

Robert Heilskov, 89, of Hampton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Franklin Country View Nursing Facility in Hampton. Woodley Funeral Home of Hampton is caring for Robert and his family. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the church with Reverend Karl Bollhagen officiating. Following the service Robert will be laid to rest at Hampton Cemetery. He was born on December 19, 1934, in Hampton, to Soren and Katrina (Sondergaard) Heilskov. Robert graduated from Hampton High School and furthered his education at Grand View College. He served his country in the United States Navy. Robert was stationed in Kodiak, Alaska serving as a control tower operator keeping us safe from Russia. After leaving the service he was united in marriage to Phyllis Behn on March 26, 1955, in Hampton. To this union, four children were born: Gerry, Steven, Susan and Scott. Robert was a local farmer and dairyman. Robert was an Outstanding Young Farmer, served on various dairy boards, served on the Hampton Board of Education, member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton and longtime member of the Hampton Country Club. Robert enjoyed his grandchildren, gardening in retirement, arguing (Heilskov trait) and proud of his Danish roots (Danes are lovers, not fighters he would proudly say). Robert is survived by his son Gerry (Sarah) Heilskov of Hampton, Steven (Peggy) Heilskov of lowa Falls, daughter Susan (Brad) Staley of Hampton and son Scott (Adele) Heilskov of Latimer, grandchildren Jeremy Heilskov of Denver, CO, Ryan (Yenny) Heilskov of Kernersville, North Carolina, Brandon (Patti) Heilskov of Hampton, Bryan (Lisa) Heilskov of Hampton, Tyler (Kim) Heilskov of Hampton, Kyle Staley of Nashville, TN, Kari (Lucas) McCracken of Hubbard, Megan (Brandon) Fischer of lowa Falls, Christopher Heilskov of Hampton, Casey (Rachel) Heilskov of Hampton, Alex Stecher of Urbandale, Sawyer (Chelsea) Stecher of Crystal, MN, and 21 great-grandchildren; Taylor Heilskov, lsaac Heilskov, Carter Heilskov, Sean Heilskov, Ellie Heilskov, Caiden Heilskov, Madison Heilskov, Stewart Stecher, Stanley Stecher, Sam Heilskov, Max Heilskov, Haley McCracken, Reece McCracken, Brody Fischer, Leo Fischer, Beckett Fischer, Liam Heilskov, Blake Heilskov, Reed Heilskov, Ivy Heilskov and Finn Heilskov. He was preceded in death by his parents, Soren and Katrina, wife Phyllis Heilskov, brothers Holger (Mary), Ove (Ingrid) and Verner (Mary) Heilskov.
