Dolores Jean "DJ" Bier

Dolores Jean Bier departed this world and went home to our Lord on July 13th, 2015, at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa. Dolores Jean Bier entered this world February 8th, 1955, born to Robert and Mildred Brelsford. She attended Perry Community School, later attended Iowa State University, upon graduation DJ coached and taught at Colfax Mingo High School. DJ married and had two daughters, Pamela Ann and Sarah Alyssa. DJ married Loren M Bier at sunrise on June 21st, 1990 and made their home in Alexander. She taught at Mason City Schools up to last year when cancer got the best of her. During those 25 years at Mason City High School she made many professional friends as well as lifelong friends that extended beyond the school year. DJ made the most of the summers, by coaching summer softball and helping with various summer events for the kids, including the Franklin County Fair. In between games she attended classes to increase her knowledge for work. After the girls were off on their own, during weekends off, she would drag Loren along camping. Spare time during the winter (what little she had) was taken up with the kids, card making with Pam and playing nertz with Sarah. When she had some time for herself, you could always find her down at Judy's doing ceramics or uptown at the Library playing cards. DJ loved the holidays, she had decorations for every holiday on the calendar. Christmas was extremely jolly time for her, so jolly in fact we had to get two Christmas trees to hold all the decorations, and we were working on a third tree. DJ was very active in the church, leading praise songs, teaching Sunday school and working at Vacation Bible School. She relished her relationship with God, and wasn't afraid to show it. She was a very outgoing individual who brought much joy and positive energy to everyone's life, she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband, Loren of Alexander, daughters Pamela (Chris Rizzo) Betz and Sarah Betz of Wilmington, North Carolina, and many cousins, friends and two God sons. DJ was preceded in death by her parents and brother Charles Frederick. Memorial may be directed to First Reformed Church in Alexander, Alexander Library or Cancer Research.
