Dorothy Mae Davison

Dorothy Davison, 95, of Eldora, passed away Thursday April 2, 2026 at Eldora Specialty Care. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 6, 2026 at the Christian Fellowship Church of Eldora. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Eldora Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Woodley Funeral Home of Iowa Falls is caring for Dorothy and her family. Dorothy Mae Davison was born on March 3, 1931, the daughter of John and Florence (Lubbert) Bottema. She grew up on a farm near Whitten and attended Whitten School, graduating in 1947. Dorothy had nine brothers and sisters, along with an adopted brother: Jake, Etta, Mildred, Esther, John Jr., Lawrence, Delores, Varina, Robert and Bill. During high school and after, Dorothy worked as a waitress in Eldora, where she met her future husband, Clyde Davison. They were married in Eldora in June of 1948. In 1952, their daughter, Debra Jolene arrived on New Year’s Day. Four years later, son, Randall Clyde was born on November 7, 1956, followed quickly by Rick Dale on June 25, 1958 and Dennis Warren on November 10, 1959. Dorothy stayed home with her young children while Clyde was helping to run Davison Construction, later Davison Bros. Builders’ Supply in Eldora, Iowa. She took care of her family as it grew, enjoyed gardening and refinishing furniture, and sewing on her treadle sewing machine. She took the kids to the library many days in nice weather, or sat out on a blanket in the yard to play with them. As the boys grew, she made many trips to the ER for such things as stitches, setting a bone or a concussion. In later years, Dorothy enjoyed watching Randy race the 4D car, along with his family, his crew mates and his brothers, Rick and Dennis. She enjoyed time with her granddaughters, Natalie and Megan and her grandson, Christopher. She was an animal lover, and often “puppy-sat” for any dogs in the family. Dorothy was an avid collector…of everything…and enjoyed giving things away. She was especially drawn to anything PINK and/or SOFT. Dorothy was no stranger to loss. She lost her precious granddaughter, Megan in 1991, at the age of eleven. In 2010, her husband, Clyde, passed, as did her sons Dennis, in 2015 and Rick, in 2016, just three months apart. Also preceding Dorothy were her parents, Florence and John; her brothers, Jake, John Jr., and her sisters, Etta Moats, Mildred Nuendorf, and Esther Ankrum, as well as daughter in-law, Paula Barger. Dorothy’s surviving family includes daughter, Debra and her husband, Allen Johnson; son, Randy and his wife, Kay (Veld); grandson, Christopher Davison and granddaughter, Natalie Kass, (along with Natalie’s family: Randy, Taylor, Zeb, Jordan, Austin and Tallie), and her brothers, Robert and Lawrence; her sisters, Delores Buzzell, Varina Eason, as well as many nieces and nephews. During her time in Eldora Specialty Care, she won the hearts of many of the professionals and residents there. Dorothy loved to sing and enjoyed hearing the piano. Her favorite song was: “How Great Thou Art”. Dorothy died peacefully at noon on April 2, 2026 with her family at her bedside. She was pretty easy to love. She will be greatly missed.
