Edna M. Reiners

Edna Mae (Meinders) Reiners, 92, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away Monday, October 12, 2015, at the Dumont Wellness Center in Dumont, Iowa. Edna Mae (Meinders) Reiners was born on May 23, 1923 on a farm near Ackley, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Mattie (Nolte) Meinders. Edna graduated from Dumont High School in 1941. Edna was united in marriage to George Reiners on January 7, 1942 in Bethany, Missouri. They made their home in Dumont, Iowa, and to this union three children were born: Gary Kent, Randy Dean, and Cindy Sue. Edna worked at the Dumont Drug Store, Jake & Jim's Grocery Store, and in 1955 began her career at the Reiners Nursing Home where she worked for 45 years. It was a joy in her life as she spent many hours working with patients and staff. Edna and George hosted several exchange students: Nick from Japan, Patricia from Chile, Eduardo from Uruguay, Paul from Greece, and Beatta from Germany. They enjoyed trips to Japan, Uruguay and Chile to meet and visit their families. Edna's hobbies were attending children's, grandchildren's and great grandchildren's school events as well as shopping, dancing and crafts. Edna was baptized in June, 1923 at Washington Reformed Church near Ackley, Iowa; confirmed from Heidelberg Catechism at the Dumont Reformed Church, and became a member in 1941. Edna taught Sunday School for 35 years, played the church piano and organ for 46 years, and was also the young choir leader for many years. Edna was a member of the Dumont Legion Auxiliary for 56 years, The Dumont Development Corporation, Dumont Reformed Church Dorcas, and Red Hatters. Edna spent her last years at the Dumont Wellness Center and enjoyed her time there with old friends and former employees. Those left to cherish her memory are her son Gary and wife Venita; grandchildren Amy (Denny) Thilges, Randy (Sabina) Reiners, and Terry (Emily) Reiners. Great- grandchildren Lauren, Madison, Abbie and Jake Thilges; Ezra, Mischa and Pryor Reiners; Grayce and Max Reiners; sister, Phyllis Card; brother-in-law, Duane Seibert; as well as many nieces and nephews. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mattie Meinders; husband, George; son, Randy; daughter, Cindy; granddaughter, Natalie; brother, Harold Meinders; sisters, Deona Dohlman, Wilma Maifield, Mary Lou Seibert; brothers-in-laws, Albert Dolhman, Lowell Maifield, D. D. (Toot) Card; sister-in-law, Frances (Meinders) Severs.
