Velda Marie Mitchell

Velda Marie Dorotha Mitchell was born on September 29, 1916, in a big cubed house on a farm 2 1/4 miles north of Bloomfield, Nebraska. Her parents Arthur Prosch and Louise Clausen Prosch were children of German immigrants. She lived in Bloomfield the first 25 years of her life. She was granted a $150 scholarship to several small colleges in the eastern Nebraska area, but right after high school graduation, spent about 6 years at one of the local Bloomfield banks, learning all aspects of the banking industry. On December 14, 1941, she married the love of her life and soul mate Robert D. Mitchell who lived in nearby Creighton, Nebraska. The first several years of their married lives proved to be very nomadic as they lived in several towns including Sioux City, IA, Fremont, NE, Fort Dodge, Parkersburg and Iowa Falls, IA, before settling down at Storm Lake, IA, for about 19 years and then on to Hampton, IA for another 20 years. Her husband, Bob, of almost 55 years passed away on the island of Maui on November 3, 1993, during one of their many vacations with her brother-in-law and sister, Herb and Verny Pabst. She went back to Hampton to prepare the funeral arrangements and sell their lovely Hampton home. In early summer of 1994, Velda moved to her new home in Sun City, AZ, and lived there before spending her last years in 4 different assisted living homes before finally passing away while at Leisure Living Home in Phoenix. Velda spent her 97th birthday with her AZ family and exactly 2 weeks later left this secular but very Christian life to spend the rest of her life with her husband and son, Craig, in their final Heavenly home with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Velda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert, son, Craig, and brother, Lyle Prosch. She is survived by her sister Verny and husband Herb Pabst of Denver, CO, sister-in-law Harriet Prosch of Bloomfield, NE, daughter Diana and husband Don Berry of Sun Lakes, AZ, son Ron and wife Dorothy Mitchell of Phoenix, AZ, son Rick and wife Terri Mitchell of Colorado Springs, CO, and daughter-in-law Vicki Mitchell of Edmunds, WA. She has 8 grandchildren: Mitch Berry (wife Jen), Allison Kjer (husband Bryan), Blake Mitchell (wife Kelly), Rob Mitchell, Matt Mitchell, Shawnell Mitchell, Andy Mitchell, and Lindsay Mitchell. She has 6 great grandchildren: Abby and Cora Berry, Christopher Kjer, and Payton, Reegan and Addison Mitchell. Velda was a devoted Christian and wife and a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother whose family always came first with her. Thank you, mom (and dad) for showing us all how to live this life and prepare for the next.
